Did you know that foods like plantains, red peppers, pineapple, walnuts, chickweed & evening primrose can help you in your weight loss program? Well they can. They all contain an amino acid called tryptophan which is a key ingredient in Serotonin. We’ve all heard that tryptophan in turkey makes you feel sleepy, well its that process which supports a synthesis of serotonin in your brain as well, making you feel full.
The thin membrane that surrounds each cell is called your cell membrane and like the skin of a cherry, it's what gives your body tissues their shape and substance. By eating generous amounts of vegetables, fruits, grains & legumes you can protect your "skin" from the damaging effects of free radicals.

Losing weight starts in your mind.
Think about that for a minute. Losing weight is like any other goal. It begins with a vision for the future, with an idea of the way you would like things to be (in this case your body), and with an image of what you would like things to look like.
If you're like most people I know who've tried to lose weight, you've probably attempted this before. Either you've been frustrated and unsuccessful, or you've been temporarily successful and then gained the weight back.

So I admit that like most people, I have been obsessed with Dara Torres's amazing 41-year-old abs. For those who haven’t been paying attention, Olympic swimmer Ms. Torres has become an iconic figure ever since a stunning Robert Maxwell photo of her appeared in The New York Times Magazine.
As my colleagues at the Rings blog have noted, Ms. Torres and her "phenomenally ripped" belly have become the "physical ideal for mothers, women at or approaching middle age, and just women in general.'"
But I’m going to suggest a new candidate to represent the physical ideal for women, young and old and in the middle. As reported in today’s Times, Estelle Parsons, a star of the Broadway show “August: Osage County,'’ has been winning acclaim not just for her acting but for the high level of fitness her demanding role requires. What’s amazing is that she is 80.

The study, published Thursday in The New England Journal of Medicine, was supposed to determine which of three types of diets works best. Instead, the results highlight the difficulty of weight loss and the fact that most diets do not work well.
The researchers followed 322 dieters, 277 men and 45 women. The dieters were assigned to follow one of three types of diets — a diet with about 30 percent fat, based on American Heart Association guidelines; a Mediterranean diet; and a low-carbohydrate diet based on the Atkins diet plan. The study was partly financed by the Atkins Research Foundation.

But only recently have the profits started rolling in for the wild-tea pickers, who have divided forests of tea trees along ancestral lines and are increasingly selling to larger concerns.
“Twenty years ago no one had the idea that tea could become so valuable,” said Chen Jinqiang, an official in Xishuangbanna. Read this article >>
Women over 40 benefit from regular exercise

Studies find that your mid-30s through your 40s is a critical period for determining whether you'll remain physically active after menopause, something you definitely want to strive for. The best reason is that you'll likely live longer. One large study of older women found that exercise reduced all causes of death in postmenopausal women.
Here are some others:
More than 60 percent of women don't get the recommended amount of physical activity,
and one in four women aren't physically active at all.
That number jumps in women over 55 - nearly 40 percent say they get no leisure-time
physical activity.
One large study of older women found that exercise
reduced all causes of death in postmenopausal women.
Regular exercise lowers blood pressure, reduces levels of "bad" cholesterol while raising levels of "good" cholesterol and slows our resting heart rate, enabling it to work more efficiently.
Several studies have found that physically active women experience less intense and fewer symptoms of menopause, including the ubiquitous hot flashes.
Exercise can lower the risk of the disease women fear most: breast cancer.
Exercise has emotional benefits, too. It can help you fall asleep faster and sleep longer and deeper, and relieve depression.
